Games We Play
A quick guide to the games you’ll see on our Thursday tee sheets and at club events.
1-2-3
Count 1 best net ball on hole 1, 2 best net balls on hole 2, and 3 best net balls on hole 3, then repeat the pattern throughout the round.
2 Best Balls of 4
Four-person team. Count the two best net scores on each hole.
2 Fat Rats
Throw out your worst hole on the front nine and your worst hole on the back nine.
2 Person Best Ball
Two-person team. Each player plays her own ball; the better score of the two is the team score on each hole.
2 Person Scramble
Both players tee off, select the best shot, and both play from that spot. Continue until the ball is holed.
2 Person Team
Both players play their own ball and their scores are combined for the team score.
2-3-4
Team game using 2 scores on two Par 5s, 3 scores on three Par 3s, and 4 scores on four Par 4s.
4 Clubs
Play the entire round with only four clubs total, including your putter.
4 Person Scramble
All four players tee off, select the best shot, and everyone plays from that spot. Continue until the ball is holed.
6-6-6
Holes 1–6: Best Ball. Holes 7–12: Alternate Shot. Holes 13–18: Scramble.
Any Best 9
Play all 18 holes, then choose any 9 holes for your game score. Half handicap.
Back 9
Only the back nine holes count toward the game.
Baker's Dozen
Your best 13 holes count toward the game.
Blue Tees
Play the round from the Blue Tees.
Chapman
Both partners tee off, then each plays her partner's ball for the second shot. Choose the better ball and alternate shots from there until holed.
Club Championship
Multi-round stroke-play competition to determine the Club Champion and flight winners.
Criers
Take your three worst hole scores and change them to pars.
Even Holes
Only scores on the even-numbered holes count.
Free Throw
You get one free throw per hole. The throw does not count as a stroke—use it or lose it.
Front 9
Only the front nine holes count toward the game.
Front or Back Nine
After the round, use whichever nine—front or back—gives you the better game score.
Gold/White Combo Tees
Play the Gold/White combo tees.
Gross & Net
Standard stroke play with both gross and net winners.
Gross, Net & Putts
Stroke play with competitions for Gross, Net and fewest Putts.
Holes 1–5 & 15–18
Only holes 1–5 and 15–18 count toward the game.
Holiday Scramble
Four-person team scramble played as a net competition.
Match Play
Head-to-head match play, where each hole is won, lost, or tied rather than using the total stroke score for the round.
Middle 9
Only holes 6–14 count toward the game.
Mutt & Jeff
Only the Par 3s and Par 5s count. Half handicap.
Net Only
Standard stroke play using each player's net score after handicap strokes are applied.
Odd Holes
Only scores on the odd-numbered holes count.
ONES
Count holes whose names begin with O, N, E or S: 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 16, 17 & 18.
Open Play
No scheduled game — play your own ball and enjoy the round.
Open Tees
Play from any USGA-handicapped tee. Full handicap.
Par 4s
Only scores on the Par 4 holes count. Half handicap.
Partners Texas Two Step
Two-person team: one best ball on odd holes and both balls on even holes.
Players Agony
Count the nine hardest handicap holes: 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16 & 18.
Players Delight
Count the nine easiest handicap holes: 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15 & 17.
Putts
Count all strokes made on the putting green.
Red (Gold), White & Blue
Rotate tees by hole: Gold, White, Blue, then repeat.
Red Dot + 1
Four-person team. Rotate the Red Dot player each hole. Team score is the Red Dot player's net score plus one additional best net ball.
Reverse Waltz
Count 3 net scores on the first hole, 2 on the second, 1 on the third, then repeat.
Ringer/Eclectic
Multi-round competition in which your best score on each hole becomes your Ringer/Eclectic score.
Route 666
Count 1 best ball on the first 6 holes, 2 best balls on the second 6, and 3 best balls on the final 6.
S & Ts
Count holes beginning with S or T: 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 16 & 17.
Santa's Delight
Throw out your three worst holes.
Scramble
Everyone tees off, the best shot is selected, and everyone plays from that spot until the ball is holed.
Shamble
Everyone tees off and the best drive is selected. From there, each player plays her own ball for the rest of the hole.
Stableford
Earn net points on each hole: Eagle 7, Birdie 5, Par 3, Bogey 1; all other scores 0. Highest point total wins.
Strike 3
Subtract your three highest hole scores from your gross score.
Stroke Play
Standard golf: total all strokes for the round.
T.O.E.
Count holes beginning with T, O or E: 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 & 18.
Tee to Green
Count only strokes from the tee until your ball reaches the putting green.
Texas 2-Step
Four-person team: one best net ball on odd holes and two best net balls on even holes.
Three Blind Mice
Play normal stroke play. After play, three holes are drawn and removed from everyone's score.
Three Little Pigs
Throw out your three worst holes.
Three Par Delight
Your game score is your net score minus the total of your Par 3 scores.
Tri Mutual
Four-person team game using the best three balls of four.
Ts & Fs
Count holes beginning with T or F: 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, 13, 14 & 15.
Turkey Trot Roll the Dice
Everyone tees off, then roll the dice to determine which player's drive is used; a 5 or 6 means take the best drive. Scramble from there.
Waltz
Count 1 net score on the first hole, 2 on the second, 3 on the third, then repeat.
White Tees
Play the round from the White Tees.
